This 4,000 square-foot townhouse was designed in 1891 by renowned architect Stanford White, known for (among many things) the Washington Square Arch and the second Madison Square Garden. It was built by David King Jr., builder of White's Madison Square Garden and the base of the Statue of Liberty.
